Lawrence University Faculty Jazz Ensemble

A group of Lawrence University Conservatory faculty have  banded up to perform and record jazz.  I attended a recording session of the ensemble along with my boss Rachel Crowel and co-worker Alex Kohnstamm; we brought a multitude of cameras and gadgets to capture the magic.

This is Lawrence-Outdoor Recreation Club

Over spring break this year I signed up to go on a backpacking trip with the Lawrence University Outdoor Recreation Club. I decided to take my camera to Utah and shoot some video of our trip for This is Lawrence. When spring break rolled around we all packed into a rental car and set off on a week-long adventure to the desert. The trip was incredible and the video looks pretty good if I don’t say so myself.

Static Animation

I am currently taking Intro to Studio Art at school and since it is an introductory class we get to try many different styles of art. Our latest assignment was to create an animation. I worked on this project with Walker Brengle a classmate and friend of mine. This video will compete in the Lawrence University Winter Film Festival as well.

Enjoy!

After a year in post production the third installment of the legendary NOLS Mythcrushers series has been released. I contributed camerawork for the interviews, lightning b-roll and a tent.

This is Lawrence-Nani Agbeli

Upon arriving at Lawrence I began working a student job with the university’s web and video department. The web and video department produces all sorts of content for Lawrence. One of the primary responsibilities of the web and video department is the “This is Lawrence” web series which gives people a deeper look into Lawrence University. This video is my first contribution to the series.

Lawrence University 48 Hour Film Festival

My college film club just hosted the 48 Hour Film Festival. Students interested in different aspects of film making were grouped into 6 teams. Each team had 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film. The elements our film had to include were: a green plastic squirt gun, the character of a war hero, the line “whose gonna take out the trash” and the genre of mystery. The weekend was very hectic and a lot of fun, here is the final product.

Enjoy!

The Dream Expedition

Calling all video makers!!!! NOLS is partnering with Patagonia (the company not the place) to run a video making competition. All you need to do is create a video explaining what your Dream expedition is and how you would prepare for it. Submit the video before October 31st and you could win the Grand Prize of an all expenses paid NOLS course (tuition, gear and airfare). There will also be winners in a number of more specific categories and ALL winners will receive some sweet gear from NOLS and Patagonia to play with.

I had the honor of spearheading the video marketing materials for the contest from the concepts of the videos all the way through shooting and post-production.

Sit back relax and enjoy!

NOLS Instuctors

What jobs can you think of that entail and require: extensive first aid training, years of experience in their field, total responsibility for the lives of inexperienced groups of between 8 and 20 people, working conditions such as: driving rain, blizzards, deserts, arctic waters, sub-zero temperatures and a complete isolation from emergency medical services and technology, sometimes for months at a time. All for the glorious pay of about $4 an hour. Give up? I give you the NOLS Instructor, sit back and listen to what these NOLS Grads have to say about their instructors.

Oh yeah, $4 an hour.

Tori McClure

Meet Tori McClure, AKA the most badass person on earth. Because rowing across the Atlantic Ocean once isn’t enough, she did it twice. Because just being the first American to ski to the South Pole isn’t enough she had to be the first American and the first woman to accomplish it. Because being on the board of directors of one school isn’t enough she has to be on the board of directors of two and be the president of a college to boot! These incredible accomplishments and many others are what make her the focus of this NOLS Leaders Video.

Brace Yourselves.

Winter Warmth

Lets say that you are dogsledding across Canada, or backcountry skiing in the Wind River range in Wyoming, or Mountaineering in the Brooks Range in Alaska or even climbing Mount Everest, what do all of these activities have in common?  If you said that it is stupidly cold and miles away from any nice toasty furnaces then ding ding ding! The winter is an incredible time to get out and play in the backcountry with just one problem, if you don’t know what you are doing it is stunningly easy to get trench-foot/frostbite/be cold and miserable/die. Thats why we made this video explaining the winter weather layering system that NOLS uses. Now no layering system is perfect and everyone has their own personal preferences and systems for staying warm in the backcountry but after 45 years of field testing NOLS has a pretty solid layering system. Disclaimer: no matter what layering system you bring winter camping, you will probably still be cold and miserable at some point.

You could avoid the whole dying thing though.
